With a degree in Studio Art from Mills College, Oakland, her paintings are representational yet visionary and explorative, probing the reciprocal relationship between humans and our planet. Through her immersive portrayals of various landscapes, Peart invites viewers to contemplate the intersections of landscape painting history, nature, science, and co-creating better futures. Currently residing and painting full-time in Sacramento, California, her compositions serve as windows into her visions for our future, offering glimpses of alternative realities and parallel worlds.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Exploring the realms of forgotten futures and abandoned possibilities, where the echoes of what could have been both haunt and inspire us. I draw from mid-century American architecture and visionary science fiction in order to cultivate optimism for the future of life on Earth. Through painting, I navigate the remnants of idealistic utopias and humanity's faltering attempts to control the forces of nature.

My paintings serve as portals to new realms, reimagining familiar motifs from architectural models and idyllic landscapes to breathe life into abandoned dreams. By recontextualizing these elements, I underscore the intricate relationship between physical and psychological space, pushing the boundaries of traditional landscape painting. Through unconventional use of color, texture, and spatial inversions, I express my belief in our capacity for innovation and our collective journey towards harmonious coexistence with our living planet.

VALUES + SUSTAINABILITY

Through my studio practice and art business, I am driven by a profound commitment to values that reflect my deep connection to art, community, sustainability, and social responsibility. As an artist and arts educator, I understand the transformative power of creativity and its potential to shape a better tomorrow. Rooted in these beliefs, I have crafted a studio practice that embodies these principles in every aspect of my work.

Sustainability and Resourcefulness:

Environmental stewardship is at the core of my artistic practice. I am dedicated to minimizing my ecological footprint by prioritizing the use of recycled materials whenever possible. By repurposing discarded resources, I infuse new life into forgotten elements, creating art that carries a message of renewal and sustainability. My commitment extends to my packaging as well, as I exclusively utilize upcycled, recyclable materials to ensure that my art reaches its recipients with minimal ecological impact.

Community Empowerment:

Recognizing the importance of community, I actively contribute to the vitality of local small businesses. I engage in conscious commerce, supporting independent ventures that nourish the communities they serve. Through volunteering my time as an artist and arts educator, I strive to impart the transformative power of creativity to others, fostering a sense of connection and inspiration.

Ethical Choices:

My art is a reflection of my values, and I consciously align my business and studio choices with my ethical compass. I deliberately avoid patronizing large businesses that espouse ideologies that conflict with my principles. This stance is an assertion of my commitment to fostering a more equitable and just world, both within and beyond the realm of art.

Empowerment and Access:

I firmly believe that art is a human right. With this conviction, I work to ensure that people of all ages, backgrounds, and walks of life have access to art supplies and education. By volunteering and openly sharing my research and resources, I contribute to dismantling barriers that impede creative expression, fostering a culture of inclusivity and accessibility.

Mutual Aid and World-Building:

Inspired by the principles of mutual aid and emergent strategy, I envision a future where collective efforts reshape the art world. In a male-dominated, capitalist, and extractive industry, I am committed to being a catalyst for positive change. By advocating for sustainable practices, prioritizing marginalized voices, and drawing inspiration from diverse literary sources, I am carving out a space that celebrates innovation, equity, and imagination.

Commitment to Education:

Did you know I am a former classroom teacher? I am. My decade-long commitment to public education underscores my unwavering belief in the power of art to uplift, educate, and empower. Through my practice, I seek to continue my commitment to community, striving to bridge gaps, support, and amplify voices in my community.

Earth Seeding:

The Earth is a beloved partner and friend, and I approach her with reverence and care. My love for my native plant garden and my dedication to sourcing sustainable art supplies reflects my commitment to nurturing and giving back to our living planet. Just as I give to my community, I give to the Earth, ensuring that her resources are replenished and cherished.

In my ongoing journey as a women-owned small business owner and artist, I am committed to manifesting these values in every brushstroke and decision I make. Jennifer Peart Art stands as a beacon of hope, a testament to the potential for Art to be a driving force for positive change, inclusion, and a sustainable future.
