Fog and Foundry - Archival print
“Fog and Foundry” captures the view of the Golden Gate Bridge from the Marin Headlands, with rocky shorelines and waves in the foreground and the distant cityscape of San Francisco emerging through mist and fog. Emerald-green waters meet the industrial tones of the bridge and buildings, creating a dialogue between natural and human-made forms.
This vantage point invites reflection on the layered history of the Bay Area. Before the Gold Rush and urban development, this landscape was home to the Coast Miwok and other Indigenous peoples, with tidal estuaries, oak-studded hills, and abundant wildlife shaping daily life. The dramatic cliffs, bays, and windswept vegetation provided both shelter and passage, long before the city rose and the bridge was built.
“Fog and Foundry” celebrates both the enduring beauty of this coastline and the complex relationship between humans and the environment - the fog, the rocks, and the city coexist in a moment of tension and harmony, a reminder of what has been preserved and what has been transformed.
The original painting was made using oil, acrylic, and pastel on wood panel.
