Orange Sundream - Archival print

from $75.00

“Orange Sundream” features the magical superbloom of California poppies in Antelope Valley. During bloom years, the hills transform into fields of vibrant orange, drawing visitors from across California and beyond to witness a landscape that feels almost unreal in its intensity and scale.

In recent years, social media - especially Instagram - has changed how many of us experience places like this. Images of perfect wildflower scenes travel quickly, inspiring people to seek out the same view and recreate the same photograph. While this visibility helps more people discover and connect with nature, it has also placed increasing pressure on fragile landscapes. Trails widen, flowers are stepped on, and ecosystems shaped by brief seasonal conditions must suddenly accommodate overwhelming numbers of visitors.

Many of these public lands were never designed or funded to support this level of attention. Park infrastructure, staffing, and maintenance often lag far behind visitation. Regional parks, state parks, and national parks alike depend on adequate funding, education programs, and trained staff to help protect these environments while welcoming the public. Without proper support, the responsibility of care falls unevenly on the land itself.

I believe outdoor spaces should remain accessible to everyone. At the same time, we are being asked to relearn what it means to be in relationship with nature - not just visitors seeking a photo, but participants responsible for the wellbeing of the places we love. Stewardship requires investment, education, and collective care.

“Orange Sundream” reflects both the awe of the poppy superbloom and the growing awareness that beauty alone does not protect a landscape. Preservation depends on how we choose to show up for our public lands - as stewards and protectors - so these fleeting moments of abundance can continue for generations to come.

The original painting was made using oil, acrylic, and pastel on wood panel.
