Second Growth Fractals - Original painting on redwood slab

$1,800.00

"Second Growth Fractals" is the largest of three paintings created for a special call for art on reclaimed and recycled materials. Crafted on a slab of reclaimed redwood from the Sacramento Tree Foundation's Urban Wood Rescue yard, the piece retains a live edge with some bark still affixed, preserving the natural character of the wood. The composition features one of my favorite quiet groves, Montgomery Woods outside of Ukiah, California, where the interplay of trees and light is amplified by graphic lines that suggest hope, connection, and utopian possibility. Painting on redwood allowed the natural grains, knots, and burls to merge with the artwork, enhancing its depth and resonance. Like its companion pieces, it has been exhibited in Sacramento and among the redwoods in Santa Cruz, and the graphic motifs reflect the influence of visionary science fiction authors, inspiring optimism for our planet’s future. Acrylic, pastel, and colored pencil on reclaimed redwood slab. D rings and wire hardware included.
