Table of Fire and Bloom - Framed original painting
"Table of Fire and Bloom" introduces the striking landscape of Table Mountain near Oroville, California - a geological marvel shaped by a rare basalt lava inversion. Over millions of years, ancient lava flows hardened into a protective cap of basalt while the surrounding softer rock eroded away, leaving the dramatic flat-topped “table” that rises above the valley today. Each spring, wildflowers spill across this volcanic plateau, weaving color through the dark basalt and cascading around ephemeral waterfalls in a display that feels almost otherworldly. Yet this wonder exists here, on our one and only home planet. The piece acknowledges our ecosystem’s fragility: cattle grazing and agricultural runoff feed algae blooms that threaten the endangered newts who depend on these waters. In this meeting of fire-forged rock and seasonal bloom, the painting holds both awe and responsibility. Acrylic, gouacge, and pastel on wood panel. Framed in a maple float frame.
